ISDR – MISSION STATEMENT

The INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH (ISDR) is a registered non-profit NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION (NGO) working for sustainable development. Its areas of activity are education, training, research & development concerning natural resources such as soil, water, air, agriculture, forest; coastal and river management and their conservation, rural development, urban planning and management,

infrastructure development, coastal zone management, energy and GHG issues, sanitation, industrial development, disaster management, socio-economic development, gender issues, poverty alleviation, environment management, climate change, global environmental changes, etc.

ISDR facilitates local initiatives such as urban and regional planning, agricultural development, environment conservation, water management, coastal zone management, income generation projects for youth and women, education and training, and socio-economic development by mobilising collective and participatory action towards self-reliance and sustainability. ISDR participates in capacity building programmes organised by the UN and other research institutions and then imparts the acquired knowledge and skills to the local community and other NGOs and VOs.

ISDR participated successfully in a number of events organised by UN, EU, UNEP, and UNESCO, including WSSD and Istanbul, plus 5 prepcom meetings from the Asia region. ISDR is working in collaboration with intercontinental organisations, international universities and research institutions and grass root level organisation for sustainable

development with focus on socio-, economic-, cultural and human resources development through public participation and collaborative research. This helps to involve more stakeholder participation in the sustainable development process in different parts of the world.

ISDR; registered under the Society Registration Act,1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act 1950; works with community groups, NGOs, VOs and international associations, societies and agencies to achieve the above-mentioned aims. Established in 1992, ISDR started working only on a limited range, until 1997, when activities could be increased to cover the whole palette. Over a period of time ISDR's message has reached several NGO's, research organisations, communities, agencies and many individuals around the world, despite its limited resources.
